The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) is composed of 5 residents and 2 alternate members who are appointed by the Township Board.  The ZBA has three principle duties:

1. Hear and decide requests for nonuse variances.  These variances involve the construction, structural changes, or alteration of buildings or structures related to dimensional requirements of the zoning ordinance.

2. Hear and decide appeals from administrative orders, requirements, decisions, or determinations made by an administrative official.

3. Hear and decide questions that arise in the administration of the zoning ordinance, including interpretation of the zoning map.

Variances constitute a majority of the ZBA's work.  When deciding if a variance is justified, the ZBA must determine if there are practical difficulties that stand in the way of complying with the strict letter of the zoning ordinance.  The ZBA may grant a variance so that the spirit of the ordinance is observed, public safety secured, and substantial justice done.

The ZBA meets on an as-needed basis on the third Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the Township Hall.
