Why Lyon Township

Return to: About Us

Lyon Township has the distinction of being one fo the fastest growing communities in Southeast Michigan; (per capita), due in part to our unified vision, long-term planning, and strategic implementation for future growth and development.

The Township boasts an attractive business climate, which is matched by its historic rural character and scenic charm, residential appeal, and an abundance of recreational resources.

Covering 32 square miles, Lyon Township's many benefits include its strategic location and quality schools,  The I-96 expressway skirts the northern portion of the Township, providing easy and convenient access to two additional freeways, I-275 and US-23, for businesses and commuters alike.  Township schools compare favorably with top-quality schools elsewhere in the state.

Lyon Township's abundant natural and recreational assets include six golf courses, the Huron Valley Trail, a linear state park for pedestrians and bicyclists, and James F. Atchison Memorial Park, a bluff-top green space with spectacular views and home to the Lyon Township Kite Festival, which draws more than 2,000 flyers and spectators.

Using tax increment financing (TIF), the Lyon Township Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has planned and implemented public enhancements designed to revitalize its primary business district, New Hudson.  These enhancements will create the type of walkable and vibrant downtown district Lyon Township residents desire.
